Candela has two related meanings in Spanish, candle and fire. In the old days drummers would light a small fire to heat up and tune their drums. "Darle Candela altambor" (Set the drums on fire").
Not to be confused with candela as the SI base unit of luminous intensity; that is, power emitted by a light source in a particular direction, weighted by the luminosity function.
I get these two mixed up all the time. -Added July 11, 2009
