Oscar Charles Gamble aka 'The Big O' (born December 20, 1949, in Ramer, Alabama) is a former outfielder and designated hitter in Major League Baseball. He played for 17 seasons, from 1969 to 1985, on seven different teams: the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees on two separate occasions, as well as the Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, Cleveland Indians, San Diego Padres, and Texas Rangers.
His career batting average is .265, with 200 home runs in just over 4500 major league at bats, and 666 runs batted in. His hitting prowess was often overshadowed by his famously large Afro hair.
He is quoted to have given his advice about the game with this famous quote: "They don't think it be like it is, but it do."
